Today, enjoy a city tour of Colombo visiting the commercial city centre area known as the “Fort”, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. See the busy markets and bazaars of Pettah and visit the Hindu temple with magnificent stone carvings.

Also visit Kelaniya Buddhist temple and an Old Dutch church built in the 18th century. Drive past the Town Hall, Independence Square and the Bandaranaike Memorial international conference hall to see the replica of Avukana Buddha.

This morning, embark on a drive to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, set up by the Sri Lankan government to rehabilitate orphaned elephants. Spend the morning at the orphanage, seeing elephants being fed and bathed by the orphanage staff.

Continue drive to Sigiriya. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for 2 nights stay. Enjoy an evening at leisure.

This morning climb the Sigiriya rock built by King Kassapa in the 5th century AD. Today the rock is a treasure trove of rare art. In a pocket of the giant rock are the famous frescoes of the heavenly maidens of Sigiriya.

This afternoon drive on to Polonnaruwa, the 2nd capital of Sinhala kings dating back to 11th & 12th century A.D. The entire landscape of the region is punctuated by huge man-made reservoirs, the most famous of which is the ‘Parakrama Samudra’. Numerous monuments are found in this city & ‘Gal Vihara’ complex is one of the best among them with fine sculptures of standing and seated Buddha.

After breakfast, drive to Dambulla to visit the rock cave temple, dating back to the first century BC. The temple consists of a series of 5 caves containing many statues and paintings including a 47 ft. long statue of Buddha. Continue drive to Kandy, en-route visiting the Spice Garden at Matale.

Upon arrival in Kandy, enjoy an evening at leisure.

Today, explore Kandy, driving along the picturesque lake road and visiting the Market Place for arts & crafts show room. Later in the afternoon visit the Temple of Tooth Relic of Buddha.  This evening, enjoy a Sri Lankan cultural show and witness a magnificent fire walking display.

This morning, embark on a short drive to Nuwara Eliya. On the way, visit the Botanical Gardens, where a rare collection of tropical exotic and indigenous flora can be viewed and the famous Orchid House. The scenic drive to Nuwara Eliya passes through lush green tea estates. Make a brief stop to visit a tea plantation and factory and learn the secrets to a perfect Sri Lankan cup of chai.

Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, enjoy an evening at leisure.

After breakfast embark on your drive to Yala. En-route take a photo stop to view the Ella Gap, the terrain that falls away approx 3000ft to the south coastal plain. Framed by towering Ella Rock on the right and a wooded ridge on the left, the Ella Gap is a fascinating marvel.
 
This afternoon enjoy a jeep safari in Yala National Park. Common sightings at the national park include elephants, deer, wild boar, sambhar, leopard and crocodiles.

Early this morning, embark on your return drive to Colombo airport to board your flight to onward destination.
