Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Upon your arrival in Paro, you will be met by our representative at the airport. After a warm welcome, embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan and home to Bhutan's royal family, government offices, and various foreign missions.
This afternoon, discover the serene and beautiful city of Thimphu, visiting the National Library and the National Institute of traditional medicine (from outside). Later in the evening, visit Tshechu Dzong, the beautiful medieval fortress which houses most of the Government offices and the King’s throne room.
Day 2
After breakfast, visit the government-run handicrafts emporium and privately owned crafts shops, which offer a wide range of handcrafted products, including the splendid Thangkas paintings and exquisitely woven textiles for which Bhutan is famous. Also visit the Folk Heritage and National Textile Museum.
After lunch, embark on a short drive to Punakha, the erstwhile winter capital of Bhutan. Enjoy the scenic drive through Dochu-la pass (3140m), followed by an evening at leisure in Punakha.
Day 3
This morning, visit Punakha Dzong dating back to the 17th Century and the newly built Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten.
Later in the morning, embark on your return drive to Paro. En-route, stop for lunch at the beautiful town of Wangdue (Wangdiphodrang). Take a brief stop and visit the Wangdiphodrang Dzong and local market.
After lunch, continue drive to Punakha, en-route viewing Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom.
Enjoy an evening at leisure in Punakha.
Day 4
This morning, hike to Taktsang, popularly known as Tigers Nest Monastery. En-route, stops for lunch at a local cafeteria, run by monks and located halfway up the trail overlooking ‘Tigers Nest’.
After lunch, visit the National Museum and Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
Day 5
This morning, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.
